The day was gorgeous, 84 degrees and sunny. It wasn't too humid which was perfect because amusement park + humidity + Denise = one unhappy camper. :) Anyway, here are some pictures from the day.
As many of you parents know, any time you take a picture of multiple children, it is a tremendous feat just to get them all looking your general direction, let alone smiling. So add an amusement park and this picture is what you get.....and as they say: you get what you get and you don't throw a fit.
There were not too many 'rides' that Eli could go on because of his age and size. But his favorite was the horses, as he called it. Even though he never smiled on the ride, we knew he liked it because he said 'again, again' afterwards. So we rode it about 3 times total. Come to think of it, he never really smiled or even laughed on any of the rides. I think he was just so overwhelmed with the visual, audio and tactile stimulation that he was basically in a daze the entire time. :)
We watched a parade and Chad had Eli on his shoulders for some of it. Again, with all of the stimulation, even with my yelling his name and jumping all around to get his attention, he was mesmerized with the parade. Take note of the boy on his Dad's shoulders with the life jacket on to the left....
Chad put Molly on his shoulders and I took Eli and put him on mine. I was able to snap pictures of multiple characters with one hand, while the other hand was holding Eli's legs and I was trying to get him to look at the actual parade instead of the boy's life jacket next to us. It was loud, but I could barely hear Eli saying "Jacket, have it?" (he wanted the boy's life jacket). Somehow this was more exciting than seeing his favorite character, Big Bird.
Every so often, we would hit a mister. These posts would spray out mist for the kids (and the parents!) to stay cool. They were nice. Molly loved them and wouldn't leave until her whole head was soaked. Eli wasn't really sure what to make of them, so he decided that they were giant water fountains and tried to drink.
There were these big, long tube slides that Chad helped slide Eli down. I am not sure why, but he went slower than molasses. But he liked it. He actually did smile! :)
This is the gang with Bert and Ernie. Eli was NOT a fan of the larger than life characters, but luckily I got a mediocre shot. It was good that he was not facing the huge, menacing face of Bert. Earlier, we caught the end of a theatre presentation of Elmo's World. Since it was the end, we were standing at the top of all of the rows of seats. Apparently when the show ends, larger than life Elmo exits by going up through the aisle to the top of the theatre (where we were standing) and goes out a door. Well, I think Eli is scarred for life because seeing what looked a little Elmo from far away gradually get bigger and bigger and then almost run him over......I have never had him grab onto me that tightly before ever. And boy did he scream bloody murder!
Thanks Nana and Poppy!
